Landlords and renters will have to wait to see the finer details of changes to the Residential Tenancies Act

Landlords and renters will have to wait to see the finer details of changes to the Residential Tenancies Act

From next month it will be harder to evict tenants - and they will be able to make minor decor changes and install fibre broadband.

Renters United spokesperson Robert Whitaker says they need to tighten criteria on moving a tenant out for a family member - or for renovation.

He says it's very subjective - and there's no room to challenge if the family member doesn't move in.

Whitaker says there will be a published list of changes tenants can make to a property - but he expects they'll be things like hanging paintings and painting walls..
