Major delays seen before Christmas are slowly easing.
Ports spokesperson Matt Ball expects the current load issues to be cleared by next month.
But he says New Zealand's supply chains are built to cope with peak periods and it needs to work differently.
Ball says parts of the supply chains could move towards more 24/7 operations.
He says there could also be the introduction of demand congestion charges in Auckland to allow trucks to move around more easily.
