18 January 2021
The first of two Southern Ocean storms hit last night -- with another on its way around Wednesday.
They'll bring gale force winds, plummeting temperatures and snow flurries.
MetService meteorologist Peter Little says hail, thunderstorms and strong winds are expected in the west of the South Island.
He says thunderstorms are also on the cards for south of Ashburton this afternoon and evening.
