Devastation for owners of a historic house set on fire over the weekend

Devastation for owners of a historic house set on fire over the weekend

The fire at the 105-year-old house on Park Terrace broke out just after 1am yesterday.

A 40-year-old man has been charged with arson and has been remanded in custody at Christchurch District Court

The owners say family members and friends were out for the evening and returned to find the house in flames

They say they're thankful no one was asleep inside - but the loss of their home - which they've worked to restore to it's former glory since the quakes - is a real blow.

The owners also thanked the emergency service for their efforts.
