Stats NZ reports home transfers rose 40 per cent nationwide in December 2020 to 19-thousand-224.
That includes a 53 per cent increase in Auckland and 48 per cent in Canterbury, from the same time last year.
One Roof Editor Owen Vaughan says people went on an unexpected buying spree, post lock-down.
He says just last week REINZ data showed one in five houses in New Zealand sold for more than a million dollars.
