Police want people to speak up about organised crime, illegal guns and violence
8 February 2021
West Auckland councillor Linda Cooper is worried about a surge in crimes involving guns in her region.
There were two arrests after shots were fired at a home in Mt Roskill on Waitangi Day.
Ms Cooper says it's been a struggle working with police since Auckland's councils merged into the "super city" in 2010.
She says it's a shame there are no neighbourhood police teams any more, because they were connected with communities.
Police have responded, saying it will take the entire community to tackle organised crime, illegal firearms and violence.
