New Zealanders are buying more household goods -- and spending less on accommodation

New figures from Stats NZ show electronic card spending on furniture, electronics and hardware in January was up 17-percent on January last year.
Accommodation spending dropped a whopping 29 percent.
There was some good news for the hospitality sector, though -- with spending on food and beverages up 2.3 percent.
Overall, seasonally adjusted spending was down 0.4 percent.
