Real Estate Institute of New Zealand data for January shows the median house price has increased by 27.7 percent in Wellington in the past year, to 792-thousand dollars.
Sales meanwhile are down 31 percent year-on-year - due to the low number of houses being listed.

She says sellers will almost always pick a buyer who's viewed the property early, and a lot of properties are selling within a week.
