Nitrous oxide, or NOS, is a prescription medicine used for pain relief and anaesthesia -- but is illegally inhaled by those seeking a short burst of euphoria.
It's banned for therapeutic use under the Medicines Act -- but can be found in some food products, like whipped cream.
Medsafe Group Manager, Chris James, says it's illegal to sell any products containing the gas for the purpose of inhaling it.
He strongly advises people not to inhale it -- and says MedSafe's investigation is ongoing.
