New Zealand Oil and Gas has surrendered its last exploration permit outside Taranaki

The Toroa permit in the Great South Basin ended yesterday, the last in the South Island.
Greenpeace has praised the move as a win for the environment.
But Petroleum Exploration and Production Association chief executive John Carnegie says it's a massive loss to the economy and the environment.
He says gas helps keep our electricity prices low and encourages electrification that we all need to respond to.
