Thirteen crews and three choppers battled a blaze on the back of Mount Highfield, near the township of Waiau, at its peak yesterday.
The fire was contained - after it chewed through ten hectares.
And near Castle Hill, helicopters with monsoon buckets are preparing to return to a scrub fire that's raged overnight.
It's ripped through 300-hectares of rugged terrain since Friday afternoon, but no structures have been damaged.
Fire and Emergency says the fire is about 70 percent contained - and a rural officer stood guard overnight.
