The Court of Appeal has today quashed Wayne Montaperto's convictions for child abduction and sex offences.
He has served a jail term, was seriously beaten in a vigilante attack in Napier, and deported from Australia over the convictions.
During inquiries into Napier schoolgirl Teresa Cormack's death in 1987, police resumed an earlier investigation into Montaperto, which led to convictions for kidnapping and indecent acts.
He always denied the charges and now his convictions have been set aside.
