A new one is set to open in Glen Innes later this year.
Dozens of patients says they're devastated about the unit closing.
A majority of them will have to travel further to Kereru Kidney Centre in Glen Innes, a new 7-million dollar building.
35 patients wrote a letter to the DHB expressing their disappointment, saying the existing facility provides good service, and is in close proximity for those living near it.
The DHB says Greenlane's dialysis unit is no longer fit for purpose.
