A strong economic recovery in some regions...while others have had a slow start to the year

Infometrics' latest Quarterly Economic Monitor shows Bay of Plenty was the top performing regional economy in the first three months of the year.

Taranaki and Waikato are also growing strongly.

Senior economist Brad Olsen says the likes of West Coast, Otago and Auckland have struggled.

He says they've all had strong international tourism based economies...and that reliance is now weighing them down.
