Canterbury DHB says it's working on options to cope with a record number of patients in the ED

In March, more than 10 thousand people presented at Christchurch Hospital's emergency department - almost a third needing to be admitted to hospital.
Canterbury DHB had to cancel more than 60 surgeries over two weeks this month - due to a surge in acutely unwell patients.
DHB Chief Executive Peter Bramley says the hospital cannot keep accommodating the growth - and is looking how to provide care in different ways or in different places..
