Controversy on the southern outskirts of Auckland -- over the latest plan to house high risk parolees near schools
1 June 2021
The Department of Corrections is planning to house nine men -- possibly including men who have sexually offended against children -- in a residential facility between two South Auckland schools.
The facility is planned on Ararimu Road in Drury, somewhere between Ararimu and Ramarama schools, but the exact location hasn't been disclosed.
Corrections says the men will undergo a "careful and robust" assessment, and the department is confident the risks can be safely managed.
But a spokesman for Ararimu School says the community still has numerous questions about what supervision will be provided and what will happen if something goes wrong.
