Mortgage adviser Rupert Gough says in New Zealand's main city's about 70 per cent of those getting onto the property ladder could be getting financial help from their parents.
He says many families have the money to spare.
But Mr Goff says it is something parents should be thinking about as they approach retirement.
He says people need to think about whether the money is being locked into the house, or if the children will be paying it back.
