Startling figures show just how much it costs taxpayers when someone is injured or killed in a drink-driving crash

Data released by ACC under the Official Information Act shows, between 2016 and 2020 nearly 10-thousand claims were accepted.
On average each claimant would be paid out more than 117-thousand dollars for life-time costs.
That money goes towards things like loss of income, medical treatment, rehabilitation and funeral costs.
Australasian College of Emergency Medicines President John Bonning, says drink-driving is a deliberate act, and remains a significant issue.
