The Ministry of Health initially declined the request because of intensive care capacity issues -- but now says the patient can be treated in Auckland.

It's understood she is a woman in her 60s who works for the UN.

Salaried Medical Specialists association executive director Sarah Dalton says our hospital ICUs aren't well-resourced.

She says their nervous about maintaining capacity for demand -- and now have to bring in people from overseas.
