A study published in the New Zealand Medical Journal found almost 55 percent of emergency staff had work-related burnout.
It's feared the stressful working conditions will put future nurses off the job.
Emergency nurse and senior lecturer Natalie Anderson says the study may not capture the whole story.
She says the latest Covid-19 outbreak will add even more stress that may not show up in this data set.
