New research has found disparities between Maori and NZ European post operative death rates

A team's studied all surgical procedures in New Zealand hospitals between 2005 and 2017.

It's found Maori have higher rates of death in one to three months after most types of surgery.

Lead author, Dr Jason Gurney, says we need to pay more attention to how well Maori are accessing pre-operative care.

He says Maori need equal access to things like pre-habilitation and that conditions like diabetes are managed in primary care.
