An audit led by WasteMINZ has found Kiwis throw out 1.17-billion dollars worth of avoidable food waste every 12 months.
In response, a Value Your Food Campaign has been launched.
Sector Projects Manager Sarah Pritchett says the intiative's aimed at helping Kiwis identify why so much food is wasted.
She says it's partly about lack of planning when buying food, and how to store fruit and vegetables.
