Bachcare has reported bookings from Christchurch and Wellington residents are up 12 percent on last year.

Bookings for Rotorua and Marlborough are up 33 percent...and Hanmer Springs is nearly at full capacity.

He says they're booking places that are close to home and that are within driving distance.
