Kiwi fashion companies are making great strides to become more ethical

Kiwi fashion companies are making great strides to become more ethical

Tearfund New Zealand's analysed work from 98 companies to reduce exploitation and environmental harm in the past two years.

Five Kiwi companies rank in the top 20.

Joyya Apparel score an A plus -- and AS Colour, Hallensteins Glassons, Kathmandu and Macpac all receive an A grade.

The lowest graded New Zealand company is Farmers - which has an F.

That's given when a company doesn't engage, and the report's drawn from publicly available information.

Tearfund Education and Advocacy Manager Sarah Gray says the worst brands are those who refuse to engage.

She says a lack of transparency in fashion supply chains leads to human rights abuses and environmental damage.
