The Irish had 61 percent of the ball and 67 percent territory, with those stats even more comprehensive in the first spell as the All Blacks made 153 tackles to 37.
The hosts trailed 10-5 at the break, but scored two quick tries after halftime to take the lead.
Whitelock says they couldn't get enough ball.
Ireland scored three tries to two, while Beauden Barrett failed an HIA to miss the last hour.
