The home side scored three first half tries to lead 24-6, but the All Blacks - in white - clawed back to 27-25 in the second spell before a final French surge.
It's the first time since 2009 they've lost three tests.
Coach Ian Foster says it wasn't a perfect year but they end with a 12 win/three loss record, better than some of their traditional rivals.
But Foster says they are learning some tough lessons.
