Wellington civil defence has no plans yet to evacuate people

Wellington civil defence has no plans yet to evacuate people

Greater Wellington's been hit by torrential rain - causing widespread flooding.

It's also caused slips - including one that's cut off the Maungakotukutuku Valley - affecting off 25 homes.

MetService has a weather warning in force for Wellington until 9pm - and until midnight for the Tararua Ranges, Horowhenua and Kapiti.

Wellington Civil Defence Emergency Management's Mark Duncan says they're keeping an eye on the situation.

Duncan says while there isn't any planned evacuations ... people should always be prepared to move if the weather escalates.
