Nearly four years on from Sandpaper-gate, Steve Smith is back as Australian cricket captain
Nearly four years on from Sandpaper-gate, Steve Smith is back as Australian cricket captain
16 December 2021
Smith will take charge in the second Ashes test against England starting at 5pm in Adelaide, after Pat Cummins was ruled out because he was a close contact of a positive case he dined near last night.
Smith was only promoted to vice-captain before this series when Tim Paine stood down.
Smith was suspended from international cricket and leadership roles for his part in the scandal in 2018, when a ball was scuffed during a test match against South Africa.
