The White Ferns batter spent last season off the pitch, sidelined with a torn rotator cuff.
She's made an impressive return to domestic cricket in the Twenty20 Super Smash - after three matches she tops the run tally with 156 and has the highest women's score of 76 not out.
Bates says in the past she's put too much pressure on herself to perform.
And Suzie Bates has lost the toss with the Otago Sparks this morning, her side will bowl first in the Super Smash game against Central Hinds in Napier starting in five minutes.
