Palmerston North City Council is installing no-swimming signage at Ahimate Reserve in Palmerston North after four drownings in the Manawatu River there

The bodies of two men were found in the river last evening after being reported missing around 5.30 in the evening.

The body believed to be of a woman reported missing last Wednesday has also been found and the body of the girl she was with found on New Year's Eve.

    A rahui is in place.

Water Safety New Zealand's Rob Hewitt says it's important everyone understands water safety.

He says people need to ensure they have a plan for who is looking out for children, what to do if something goes wrong and what floatation devices can be used.
