Coastal communities along the North Island's east coast are being warned to expect monster six-metre waves when Cyclone Cody reaches the country this weekend

Tairawhiti Civil Defence is telling campers and residents to expect heavy rain inland and large swells at the coast.
Surf Lifesaving New Zealand says swimmers need to watch out for powerful rips and large surging waves inundating beaches.
MetService meteorologist Raveen Das says the worst of the storm is expected late Sunday or early Monday.
He says Bay of Plenty and the eastern part of the North Island are expected to bear the brunt at this stage, but forecasters are closely monitoring the situation, as it could change.
