West Coasters are breathing a sigh of relief as they settle into a week without rain

The state of emergency in the Buller district has been lifted after heavy rain last week forced hundreds of evacuations.

No major flooding was reported, but there's been damage to rural property and roads.

Buller District Deputy Mayor Sharon Roche says the community pulled together last week and the council especially wants to thank the volunteers.

Ms Roche says it's great they had a chance to re-charge their batteries today before launching into a new working week.
