Richard Hills won't be running for the Auckland Mayoralty after all ... saying the timing isn't right

The North Shore councillor has just become a father.

The two-term Auckland Council member has been in a behind-the-scenes contest with Manukau councillor Efeso Collins, to become the Labour-endorsed candidate for the mayoralty.

This is in the event of incumbent Phil Goff deciding to retire.

Collins has announced he's running for the mayoralty, but is considered unpopular in the party, and there's no guarantee he will be endorsed as the Labour candidate.
