Police are urging people to stop and speak to them, rather than speed off

A passenger in a fleeing vehicle has died in Takanini, in south Auckland, and another was seriously hurt.
The vehicle they were in was stopped by police around 10 last night but accelerated away, and crashed into a pole a few minutes later.
Police say no pursuit was initiated.
Superintendent Jill Rogers says this is a devastating event for everyone involved.
She says when you're signalled to stop by police, just do so, because it's not worth someone being injured, or losing a life.
The Serious Crash Unit's investigating and the incident will be referred to the IPCA.
