Competition may be the driving force behind Countdown's decision to hold down prices

From Monday, the supermarket chain will freeze prices on 500 essentials over the winter months.
It includes a wide variety of staples - from tinned tomatoes, to butter, sugar, and flour.
General manager of Nite n' Day grocery store, Matt Lane, says it's likely a result of the Warehouse coming back into the market.
He says it's hard to crack due to saturation, so Warehouse is giving it a good nudge, with the likes of four-dollar butter and three-dollar milk.
