The Remarkables General Manager Ross Lawrence says he's never seen so much snow this early in the season.
He says it creates an air of excitement and should make for great skiing right from day one.
All alpine passes in the South Island are currently closed due to a big dumping of snow.
In the North Island, homes in Porirua are under threat from flooding and Fielding's Makino Floodgates have been closed.
Paekakariki Hill Road, a section of State Highway One at Marton and a section of State Highway 51 west of Rotorua are closed.
