An urgent investigation is underway into a woman who left Middlemore Hospital and later died with a brain bleed

An urgent investigation is underway into a woman who left Middlemore Hospital and later died with a brain bleed

An unnamed doctor says the 50-year-old woman presented with a severe headache at 1am on Wednesday, and after being told of an eight hour wait to be seen, left.

He says she returned three hours later, and had a CT scan which showed a type of stroke most commonly caused by a brain aneurysm.

Counties Manukau DHB confirmed the woman died yesterday.

CEO Pete Watson says Middlemore continues to be under extreme pressure and patients presentations have been abnormally high for this time of year.
