A defendant at the centre of the New Zealand First Foundation scandal has spoken out
26 July 2022
On Friday the High Court acquitted two men accused of fraud over 750-thousand dollars worth of donations given to the New Zealand First Foundation
Money given straight to the party would require a declaration of who was signing the cheques, but donors giving through the foundation can stay hidden.
One of the men, who has permanent name suppression, says what they did was entirely lawful.
He says having set up the foundation, they checked to see if they were required by law to disclose the names of donors - and found it was not mandatory.
