The Auckland golfer shares the lead with France's Celine Boutier at 15 under par, a one shot advantage over the chasing pack.
Ko fired a one under par 71 in the third round - her worst so far, with her first three bogeys.
Meanwhile Daniell Hillier's the best of the Kiwi men, heading into the final round of the Hero Open at St Andrews.
The 24-year-old is six shots off the lead in a tie for 12th at 12 under.
Ryan Fox is five shots further back and Josh Geary another two behind.
