Chlorine is being pumped into a Canterbury town's water supply, due to increased levels of organic materials

Waimakariri District Council says only properties north of Kaiapoi River -- including The Pines Beach and Kairaki -- will be affected.

The council is still investigating the cause of the issue.

It's likely due to organic material and other sediment that have been building up in pipes.
