The man who ran against Sam Uffindell in Tauranga says the public should have been told about his previous school violence

The man who ran against Sam Uffindell in Tauranga says the public should have been told about his previous school violence

It's been revealed the new National Party MP for Tauranga took part in an attack on a younger boy while at Auckland's Kings College more than 20 years ago.

During the recent by-election campaign, Uffindell said his biggest regret was not returning to New Zealand sooner.

His Act Party rival Cameron Luxton admitted drink driving as a teenager.

Luxton says the National Party needs to explain why the matter wasn't made public before the by-election.
