A Coroner has found Takaka woman Tracey Smith died from hypothermia on a tramp to Angelus Hut with her son in 2019.
In recent years, the Department of Conservation has observed people using routes to the hut, they didn't have the experience needed to do.

He says people will get a mentality where they want to see the lovely destination - and get fixated on reaching it.
