A month of wet weather is alleviating some concern about power shortages

A month of wet weather is alleviating some concern about power shortages

For the first time in 150 days, Lake Pukaki's water levels are above average, after the fourth-wettest September on record for the Waitaki catchment.

Meridian says a substantial dump of snow last month also helped.

The country's largest hydro storage lake has been below the 91-year-average since May - helping spike electricity prices in August.

There are fears it'll happen again next winter - with ongoing gas shortages still unresolved.
