    Marine Weather Situation and Forecast issued at 0530hrs Sunday 05-May-2024 by MetService

    Situation:
    A ridge of high pressure still covers much of the country today while a weak trough affects the upper North Island. A cold front moves over the South Island from the southwest on Monday, then weakens over the North Island early Tuesday, followed by another ridge. A weak cold front moves northeast over the South Island later Wednesday.

    Forecast issued at 0312hrs Sunday 05-May-2024
    Valid to 5 am Sunday for Inshore waters from Lyttelton Harbour to the Waimakariri River mouth.
    Sunday: Easterly 10 knots, turning northeast 10 knots this morning. Becoming variable 5 knots this afternoon. Sea slight. Cloud clearing. Easterly swell half a metre or less.

    Outlook until midnight Wednesday:
    Monday: Variable 5 knots, becoming southwest 10 knots early. Partly cloudy, a
    few showers developing.
    Tuesday: Westerly 5 knots, becoming northerly 10 knots by afternoon. Fine.
    Wednesday: Northeast 10 knots, turning southerly 10 knots later. Fine, but a few
    late showers possible.
