MetService has extended its heavy rain warning for Taranaki until 11pm

Up to a hundred millimetres of rainfall is expected around the mountain, while other parts of North Taranaki could see up to 80 millimetres.

Periods of heavy rain are expected in Waitomo, Taumarunui, Tongariro National Park, and Taihape until this evening.

Further down the country Kapiti Coast, Wellington, parts of Nelson, and the Marlborough Sounds have a heavy rain watch in place from 1pm.
