    Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery in Westport


    About 9.50pm last night a man entered a superette on Palmerston Street, covering his face with a scarf and sunglasses.

    Police says he pulled the pistol grip of a handgun from his pants and demanded cigarettes.

    They say the man left left empty-handed after the shopkeeper tried to call police.

    Police are asking anyone with information to get in touch.
