Despite being the closest to the quake epicentre, some Taumarunui residents have said the first they knew of the shake was when reporters started calling from Auckland and Wellington

Deb at Forgotten Word Adventures says life is going on unaffected on the main street.
Meanwhile, staff at the town's Twin Rivers Motel say they didn't feel any shaking and were surprised to have been told of the quake's proximity.
