    There were two widely-felt earthquakes off the southern North Island last night



    The larger of them measured 5.4 and was 67 kilometres deep, striking 45 km northwest of Paraparaumu at 11.45.

    The earlier shake at around half past seven measured 4.7.

    It was 57 kilometres deep and was centred in almost the same spot - 50 km northwest of Paraparaumu.
