Conditions are expected to improve in the South Island, after yesterday's wild weather

Conditions are expected to improve in the South Island, after yesterday's wild weather

A severe storm struck parts of the Tasman District before 4pm, and heavy hail blanketed Motueka.

Sand in Golden Bay turned white from the hailstorm, making it look like a winter wonderland.

MetService meteorologist Tuporo Masters says the place to be today is Southland.

He says it's forecast to be a sunny day in the deep south, Queenstown and on the West Coast.
