The first broke out on Dublin Street in Invercargill just after 2am.
Five crews were sent to the home, which was well ablaze when they arrived.
They've now extinguished the fire and have left the scene.
The second started just after 6am in Rakaia, in the Canterbury plains.
Six crews were sent to tackle it and have managed to put it out.
Fire and Emergency shift manager, Brent Dunn, says no one was inside either property at the time of the blazes, and no one's been hurt.
